Medical Aesthetics is my professional passion and having been in the specialty for nearly 15 years, I’ve seen a great deal of shift and change.
But my reasons for working as an aesthetics doctor remain the same: I believe what we can achieve with Aesthetic Medicine can profoundly impact patients.
Aesthetic treatments are sought after by an increasingly educated and discerning public. As they are clinical procedures, they should always be carried out by highly qualified medical aesthetics practitioners of integrity, skill, and dedication.
Misconceptions About Medical Aesthetics
There are some huge and common misconceptions about Medical Aesthetics.
Unfounded beliefs that patients are often incredibly fearful about when they first come for a consultation. The biggest one is the potential to look fake, especially if you are thinking of having dermal filler treatments.
I completely appreciate why you might feel this way because what is all too visible in the public eye and mainstream media, are injectable treatments that have not been carried out well, sensitively, or in a way that’s tailored and respectful to the person’s natural facial characteristics and proportions.
What you can’t see are the thousands of people who have had injectable treatments that are naturally enhancing, which restore volume and lost support, in a way that rejuvenates and beautifies the patient.
And that’s the whole point – we don’t see it because it should never be noticeable – appropriate treatment should always be subtle yet powerful. Positively impacting your self-confidence whatever age you are.
Your Medical Aesthetics Treatment Journey
These concerns about Medical Aesthetics are often a barrier to proceeding with treatments that could be truly beneficial to you. This is why I go on a unique treatment journey with each of my patients to understand your specific needs and concerns.
We may start with treatments you might be more comfortable with and somewhat familiar with like skin treatments. Building up to a point where you have the trust and confidence that moving onto injectables treatment is a natural progression for you. Sometimes this may take months or even in some cases years.
Or you might have been thinking about treatment for a long time and now know you’re ready…
Take my patient Jackie. She cancelled several free consultation appointments before we finally met!
But once we’d had that conversation about her concerns we were in a position to map out her treatment journey.
She was a little reticent, particularly about dermal filler treatments, yet had some quite profound hang-ups about how she was feeling about how she looked.
We started her with some subtle anti-wrinkle treatment which gave her confidence to move on to some structural dermal filler work that has helped with her original concerns about her appearance.
Followed by Medical grade Skincare and some Microneedling treatments to help with skin laxity and skin quality.
She now feels much more confident after achieving such a positive result!

Starting Medical Aesthetics Treatment
A recent statistical study by McKinsey and Company suggested that more than 11% of people were considering facial rejuvenation within the next 12 months and up to 13% within the next five years [1].
This is also highlighted in a global report by Allergen Aesthetics in 2022 that 81% of individuals are now comfortable getting noninvasive aesthetic treatments as compared to five years ago. And 85% of people worldwide believe that non-surgical facial treatments can enhance their confidence and self-esteem [2].
This shows that people are thinking about how they can engage with Medical Aesthetics.
If this sounds like you, but you’re on the fence about starting Medical Aesthetics treatment, my best advice is to:
- Educate and inform yourself as much as possible from reliable sources about the nature of Aesthetic Medicine
- Research your Medical Aesthetics clinician thoroughly, ensuring they offer an in-depth comprehensive consultation as part of their journey with you.
- Start slow. There’s always tonnes we can do but that doesn’t mean we have to throw the kitchen sink at you! Aiming for the maximum impact with the minimal amount of treatment to begin with to see how you respond and feel is a much smarter approach.
It is often the case that my patients will receive no treatment from me the first time I meet them. Because you need to get to know me, I need to get to know you and we need to agree on the way forward so that you truly understand what’s involved and what we can achieve together.
Consultation is at the heart of my practice – and if you have any questions, I would be delighted to answer them at a free, no-obligation appointment.
I hope you’ve enjoyed this insight into navigating the world of medical aesthetics!
